EASTENDERS fans have been left gobsmacked to discover that Chris McCausland made a major cameo in EastEnders several years ago.
Viewers have only just discovered the clip following his cheeky dig at Strictly co-star Jamie Borthwick, who has starred on EastEnders as Jay Brown for almost two decades.
While sitting down to chat about Week 4 of Strictly Come Dancing with his co-stars, 47-year-old comedian Chris made a crack about Jamie’s family getting to see him on TV but watch something other than EastEnders.
Sitting next to the likes of Tasha Ghouri and Shayne Ward, host Claudia Winkleman asked Jamie if his family has been enjoying watching him on the BBC dance competition show.
“What’s their reaction been like?” Claudia asked.
“Oh, they still can’t believe I’m here!” Jamie replied.
He added: “But they absolutely love Strictly and they’ve been such huge fans of the show over the years, so they can’t believe I’m here shaking hips, dressed as Elton John, club-repping, it’s madness, but they are loving it!”
Before Claudia could reply, Chris jumped in, making a cheeky dig at the actor.
“Must be nice for them to get to see you on the telly without having to watch EastEnders,” he joked, prompting the contestant to fall into fits of laughter.
Jamie even joined in on the joke, adding: “Nice for them to see me happy,” in reference to the soap’s dramatic storylines.
But it turns out Chris’ dig at EastEnders was mocking himself a bit, too, as he has previously appeared on the soap.
Chris, who is blind, appeared on EastEnders back in 2018, playing chess-player Karl for one episode.
He faces off against Bernadette Taylor (Claire Norris) after meeting her in the caff and asking to borrow a bottle of ketchup.
This secret cameo has been unearthed by EastEnders fans on X amid his Strictly stint.
Shocked to see him on the soap, one fan replied: “Didn’t know he was in EE!”
“OMG Chris McCausland, class! Now he just needs Corrie or Emmerdale unless he’s been on them already and we don’t know!” a second fan added.
“Careful with that sauce bottle, Chris!” joked another.
Chris is best known for his stand-up comedy, starring on programmes like Channel 4’s So You Think You’re Funny? and the BBC’s Live At the Apollo. He has also appeared on shows Would I Lie To You, Have I Got News For You and 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown and he played Rudi in the CBeebies show Me Too!
Now he is a contestant on Strictly, partnered up with Dianne Buswell. Week after week, Chris and Dianne have impressed the judges, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton du Beke and Craig Revel Horwood, as well as those watching at home.
