DWTS pro Gleb Savchenko says he learned Brooks Nader was breaking up with him from tabloids tram

Getting dumped via text is one thing; getting dumped via the tabloids is another entirely.

Dancing With the Stars pro Gleb Savchenko tells Entertainment Weekly that he found out his romantic relationship with model and former dance partner Brooks Nader was over the same way the rest of the world did — by reading about it online.

"I was surprised to learn through an article published today by Us Weekly and TMZ that Brooks has ended our relationship," Savchenko says in a statement provided by a representative. "The last communication I received from her was a text on April 6th, asking to speak. I called her today in response, but she has not replied."

Savchenko's statement comes in the wake of multiple news outlets reporting that he and Nader, who met as partners on Dancing With the Stars last season, had ended their offscreen relationship. An unnamed source told PEOPLE that Nader, 28, broke up with Savchenko 41, over the weekend amid suspicions that he had been unfaithful to her.

According to Savchenko, he hasn't seen Nader in about a week. "The last time I saw Brooks was when I traveled to New York to support her and film an episode of her reality show on March 31st and April 1st," he says. "She was sad to see me leave, but I had to return to DWTS to finish my four month tour at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood."

Savchenko adds, "I am still processing everything, and while I don’t have all the answers, I wish Brooks the best moving forward."

Savchenko and Nader were first linked romantically last fall, when their flirtations on DWTS sparked rumors they were dating. They stoked the rumors by kissing backstage, posting flirty videos on TikTok, and even getting tattoos together.

The duo never confirmed nor denied their relationship during the run of the show, and they were eliminated fifth from season 33 of the ABC dance competition. The pair reportedly split only a week after their elimination but then rekindled their relationship.

Nader gushed about Savchenko and their connection to PEOPLE in February. "I mean, life is so funny how it happens." she said. "And it was a little bit of a kismet, serendipity situation that we met when we did and just both being freshly divorced and the whole thing, it was insane. He's just such an amazing person, so I'm lucky to know him. He's more lucky. I'm just kidding, [but] he knows for sure."

This past weekend, however, fans suspected that Nader's TikTok referenced a potential breakup, with her posting a video in which she said she "probably needed a hug" and welcomed her mom and dad, who arrived with flowers in tow.

Savchenko also shared a video on TikTok earlier Monday, mouthing the words to an audio clip that said, "To everyone who watches my life and gossips about it, don't give up. Season 2 is about to come out." Fans speculated that the video was a response to the breakup.
