Dancing With the Stars” pro Britt Stewart has her season 29 partner in her prayers. Stewart and Johnny Weir competed together on the reality dance competition show in 2020.
“May we shine a light for them. May we mourn for them. May we always remember them,” Weir posted on his Instagram feed on January 30. Weir’s words were meant for the people who were killed in the mid-air plane crash in D.C. on January 29.
Skating Club of Boston CEO Doug Zeghibe told NBC News that 14 people on the plane were ice skaters who had attended a development camp in Wichita, Kansas.
Stewart let Weir know that he was in her thoughts during this difficult time.
“Thinking about you and your figure skating community! Sending prayer and thoughts to everyone during this time,” Stewart wrote in the comments of Weir’s post, adding a white heart emoji.

Many fans took to the comment section of Weir’s post to leave messages of condolences, support, and love for those affected by the tragedy.
“I thought of you and the figure skating family immediately. I am so sorry, what a tragic loss of lives,” read one comment.
“Such a tragedy. My heart is broken, but seeing the outpouring of love from the skating community is a beautiful thing. May they rest in peace,” someone else said.
“Thanks to you and @taralipinski for your genuine words and empathy today. It was much needed for many of us. Love to you both,” a third Instagram user wrote.
“Johnny I came here right away when I heard this tragic news. When you are able and if you can, I hope you will share some memories of these young stars and the coaches and family,” a fourth added.
Johnny Weir Posted a Statement on His Instagram Stories as Well
Shortly after learning that members of the ice skating community were on American Eagle 5342 flight, Weir posted a statement on his Instagram Stories.
“I’m praying for everyone affected by this tragic accident. Members of our skating family were on that flight returning home from Nationals in Wichita. We mourn their loss and pray for their families & loved ones,” Weir wrote on January 30.
Other members of the ice skating community have also spoken out about the incident, from Tara Lipinksi to Kristi Yamaguchi.
