His honest admission took place during the first ever episode of Loose Doctors
Dr Amir became emotional as he opened up for the first time about his mum's diagnosis while presenting a Loose Women special.
During Wednesday's instalment of Loose Women, the usual format was swapped for "Loose Doctors". Dr Amir Khan led the panel as he was joined in the studio by Dr Nighat Arif, Dr Zoe Williams and Dr Hilary Jones.
The team of doctors kicked off the special episode as they gave advice to viewers on how to keep themselves healthy, living happier and what to look out for.
However, during a segment where the doctors shared a health story personal to them, Dr Amir admitted he was becoming emotional as he opened up about his mum.
He shared: "My mum, and I haven't talked about this publicly before, actually. My mum, who I call Mama Khan, has an active brain tumour at the moment.
"She was diagnosed just over, I think about a year or so ago. I think I'm getting a bit emotional actually. So, she had a droopy eyelid for quite a while and we didn't think too much of it, and it became more apparent in photographs."
Amir continued: "We went to an optician who said it could be a lazy eye muscle, and then we went to see an eye surgeon who said similar things, and we went through several doctors.
"Eventually, in an outpatient clinic, she was a very junior doctor who did a thorough examination and realised her eye wasn't moving as well as it should.
"These are the things that hit you with guilt don't they? Like, I didn't really pick up on that, I didn't examine her to that degree. And she had an MRI scan and it shows she's got a brain tumour."
He added: "They can't operate on it because of where it is, which means she's palliative. So she's had five weeks of radiotherapy and so it's hard when you've got a relative."
Before the break he admitted he was feeling a bit "teary" after sharing his story after the rest of the panel wished his mum well.
The regular running of Loose Women will return on Thursday, but before Loose Doctors aired for the first time Dr Zoe took to her Instagram.
In a video she said: "I'm excited and a bit nervous. Do let me know afterwards what you thought of it, we're all really hopeful that there's going to be more opportunities to do more of this. But I think that partly depends on whether you like it!"
Loose Women airs on weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
