DON Charles has been named Boxing News Magazine Trainer of the Year at the BBBofC awards this afternoon. It was a double celebration for the camp as Daniel Dubois won BBBofC Boxer of the Year.
Formerly the trainer for Derek Chisora, veteran coach Don guided Dubois to wins over Filip Hrgovic in June, 2024 before scoring a second success, over Anthony Joshua, in September.
The Hrgovic knockout came in round eight of an undercard bout in Riyadh, earning Daniel the IBF Interim title. He defended that by stopping AJ in five in a Wembley blockbuster.
Elsewhere at the awards ceremony, Frazer Clarke and Fabio Wardley’s classic heavyweight battle was named Fight of the Year. Welsh referee Wynford Jones was presented with a Services to Boxing award.
Former heavyweight pro Scott Welch took home the Commonwealth Boxing Council gong, Adam Azim scooped up the Boxing Writers Young Boxer of the Year Award and Mikaela Mayer was named as the BBBofC Overseas Boxer of the Year Award 2024.
