While appearing on CNN’s live New Year’s Eve broadcast, famous DJ Diplo admitted he was “tripping” on LSD.
The show’s co-hosts, Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper, expressed shock and amusement at the DJ’s confession on live TV. The co-creator and lead member of the electronic dancehall music project Major Lazer spoke virtually from Los Angeles.
“I’m so curious. What’s the most conventional place that you’ve done LSD?” Cohen asked Diplo, who quickly replied, “Right now. I did some on the helicopter on the way here.”

It’s a good thing Andy wasn’t in the middle of one of his hourly tequila shots, or he would have done an actual spit-take. As it was, he shouted, “Right now?”
Meanwhile, Anderson was doubled over with his trademark giggle, as he’d had a few shots also. While he admits to never knowing what Andy might say next, he’s not used to getting a confession of that kind from a guest on live TV.
“Oh, my God! Hold on,” the Watch What Happens Live host continued as his buddy Anderson struggled to catch his breath.
“I’m not even lying,” Diplo added.
Even though he’s been stunned many times by guest confessions on WWHL, the Real Housewives executive producer was surprised. “You’re tripping right now?” he asked.
“Yeah,” Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz, calmly replied. The music producer further explained that it was just “a light trip.” He said he’d been “microdosing” the psychedelic drug in the helicopter on his way to his NYE gig. Though, he added that he “might have macrodosed earlier” in the day.
Following the unexpected turn of their live interview from Times Square, Andy admitted that he admired the two-time Grammy winner’s honesty.
“I wish I was Diplo,” he sighed. “I just think he has a fun, cool lifestyle. Can you imagine his lifestyle? ‘I’m Diplo. I do things.’”
CNN political commentator Anderson reminded viewers that LSD, also known as “acid,” is still illegal in the U.S. “We don’t recommend this at home,” he added, while laughing that he has such a “boring life compared to Diplo’s.”
