Dillian Whyte admits he’d have a harder time coming back from defeat than Moses Itauma.

Dillian Whyte is looking to derail the big hype train behind Moses Itauma when the two meet on August 16 in an intriguing heavyweight matchup between prospect and veteran contender.

Whyte, 37, sees the matchup as a risk for both himself and the much younger Itauma, but admits it would be harder for him to recover if he loses.

“It’s a big risk for both of us,” he said. “Obviously, for me it will be more risky, because he’s young. He’s 20, he can come again. For me, I’ve had a lot of big fights, different stages of our careers, so it’ll be a lot harder for me to come again.”
Whyte (31-3, 21 KO) looks a notable step up for Itauma on paper, but “The Body Snatcher” has also seen better days. After his 2022 loss to Tyson Fury, where he was stopped in six, Whyte has fought three times, struggling a bit to get past Jermaine Franklin in late 2022, before not fighting again until the spring of 2024. Last year, he beat Christian Hammer and Ebenezer Tetteh.

Itauma (12-0, 10 KO) has emerged as the most-hyped young heavyweight in quite some time. While part of that is just good, old-fashioned promotional blitz and PR material, it’s impossible to deny that you can see something special in the young man when you watch him fight, even acknowledging that his opposition has been pretty carefully-chosen thus far.
