Dianne Buswell was heard telling Chris McCauslad she 'went rougue' as she made sure to fill him in on what happened at the 2025 Bafta Television Awards as they picked up an all-important gong.
The professional dancer and the comedian had quite the journey on Strictly Come Dancing last year, with Chris making history as the hit show's first-ever blind contestant.
There were tears aplenty when they lifted the coveted Glitterball trophy, with their win also making history, as they beat off competition from their fellow series finalists.
Following the end of the show's 2024 run, the emotional new friends went their separate way and while Dianne joined her co-stars on the Strictly Come Dancing Live 2025 tour, Chris headed back to his stand-up tour, Yonks!, which he started before signing up to the hit dance show.
And Chris' continued tour meant that he was unable to join Dainne at the Bafta Awards on Sunday (May 11) as the star-studded ceremony unfolded at London's Royal Festival Hall.
The pair won the memorable moment award at the prestigious event, which is voted for by the public. The winning couple's Waltz to the Liverpool anthem You'll Never Walk Alone was the performance that earned them the nomination.
The magical performance, which they recreated during the Strictly final back in December, saw Dianne leave the ballroom floor so her partner could dance on his own before she returned to spinning in his arms moments later in tear-jerking scenes.
Accepting their award, Dianne said on stage: "In one minute and 30 seconds of a dance, I feel like this told such a story. A story of hope, determination, resilience and vulnerability, all in that one minute 30." She added: "This moment meant so much to the both of us, so I’m just so thrilled that we have this."
Dianne mentioned that Chris had prepped her with something to say on his behalf just in case they won as she said: "Chris did have something he wanted me to say, and that is ‘After 22 years in comedy, he wins a Bafta for dancing,"' before joking that it "hurts".
Now, Dianne has revealed the moment she got Chris on the phone to inform him of their win. She was heard telling him that he'd be 'proud' of her as she got some laughs in response to her jokes. Dianne also shared that she didn't 'waffle' in the acceptance speech as she admitted: "I did have a tear, but I was very, very composed".
She also revealed that her planned speech went out the window, as she left it with her belongings in the auditorium with her boyfriend, Joe Sugg, who accompanied her as her date, telling Chris: "I went rouge!"
Alongaise the video on Instagram, Dianne shared with her followers: "There’s many lovely pics from last night and I will share them soon but Joe captured the moment I spoke with Chris after we won.
"Of course I would have loved Chris there with me but I hope I captured his sense of humour in the speech. We both want to thank everybody who voted for us. This award is a real honour @pandocruises @bafta."
Strictly co-star Vito Coppola was quick to respond to the post, writing: "'People laughed at me twice'. Oh Gorjiiiii you did fantastic. So so Proud. We all are!!!" Nancy Xu supported: "SO SO SO DESERVE IT!!!!!!"
And fans were also flooding Dianne with messages. @eddo_official said: "You held it together so well and SMASHED the whole thing!!! (I hope not the bafta) so chuffed for you Di. You deserve it so much." @bexwithanx101 commented: "The rogue moment was perfect. Congratulations Dianne you nailed the speech and acceptance, can’t wait for this weeks podcast!!"
@beckyjerams wrote: "Your speech was amazing Dianne!! Huge congratulations to you and Chris!!" @courtneygroves25 replied: "The biggest congratulations, the most deserving of this award, so so proud! and your SPEECH! it was perfect." @poppy.morrison_ added: "So so proud. To create such a moment that resonated with so many people is such an incredible achievement and shows the power and inclusivity of dance! And you absolutely nailed those jokes too."
