'Devastated' Mark Wright missed out on a long-awaited career opportunity due to the birth of his baby with wife Michelle Keegan.

The former TOWIE star and wife Michelle Keegan, both 37, shared the arrival of baby daughter Palma this month with a sweet snap of the tot.

But now it has been revealed that Palma's arrival meant he wasn't able to interview Robert De Niro, 81, in person recently as part of his work with Heart Radio.

Mark co-hosts Heart's Saturday Breakfast show with his pal Olly Murs, 40, and actor Robert visited the studio with his Alto Knights co-star Debra Messing recently.

The interview was released this weekend but is thought to have been recorded prior to it airing.

And whilst Olly was in the studio to do the interview Mark logged into the chat through a video call displayed on a screen.

During the conversation Olly told Robert and Debra that Mark was 'devastated' to not be there in person.

He said: 'Behind my left shoulder you can see [Mark]. Unfortunately, he can't make it today to talk to you guys. He's absolutely devastated.'

Mark then added: 'I was supposed to be there. The one time ...'

'Robert, when I lived in LA I interviewed nearly everybody in your field and the one person I never got to do, who I wanted to do, was yourself!'

'So when it came up that you were coming in to Heart, I was like 'yes'. And then my wife decided to have a baby. And it means I can't be in the studio.'

He then spoke about his baby daughter as Robert commented: 'Ah that's nice. Nice name.'

Mark previously lived in LA where he worked as a host on Extra and interviewed a range of stars.

It comes after last week Mark was overcome with emotion as he opened up about becoming a new dad as he described it as the 'biggest achievement' of his life.

Chatting on his radio show he gushed over becoming a father as he recalled the moment he first held his newborn daughter in his arms.

As Olly asked Mark how he was feeling, the star fought back emotions as he said: 'Mate, it's actually hard to put into words.

'It's the biggest achievement of my life it's all I think about but obviously hats go off to my wife she is an absolute super human, a superhero for bringing this baby into the world.'

Sharing his appreciation for Michelle he added: 'It makes you realise what our mums did for us and makes me have so much more respect than I already had and what women had to go through.

'It's the best feeling in the world. I wake up every morning just so excited to see her face.'

Recalling the first moment he held her he continued: 'That moment when I held her in my arms, it gets me emotional now thinking about it.

'I suppose everything else goes out the window and its made me realise what life is all about and my little baby Palma I love you so much and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you.

'It's a very special feeling. I cant really put it into words. We've waited a little bit of time, we've chased our dreams and our careers and now we're here. We've got a baby.'

Returning to work just days after her birth he revealed he would be facetiming his family in the song breaks as he added: 'I am in the studio now I miss her badly now but in a couple hours I will be home to her.

'I'm about to facetime the little one now to see how she is.'

Mark also joked about the lack of sleep as he teased: 'I am absolutely all over the shop I'm not gonna lie. It feels like evening, it feels like breakfast but one things for sure I feel good I feel happy.'

Joking with Olly he added: 'You're 10 months in, I'm 10 days in so our eyes look slightly different.'

It's believed the couple chose the name Palma because of their strong links to Mallorca, their go-to holiday destination and the setting for their pregnancy reveal photoshoot.

Michelle married Mark in May 2015 and the couple live together in an Essex mansion they built from scratch.
