Denise Welch fought tears on live TV as she made an 'emotional and overwhelming' admission to Loose Women viewers.

The beloved TV presenter had a big weekend as her son Matty Healy took to the stage to headline Glastonbury with his band The 1975.

Taking to the Pyramid Stage on Friday night (June 28), the pop rock group performed the biggest tracks from their five number one albums.

Kicking off a weekend that also saw Olivia Rodrigo, Rod Stewart and Neil Young on the iconic stage, the group’s performance went down a storm with those in attendance.

One person who was watching live was Denise, who often speaks about how proud she is about how far Matty and his bandmates have come as a band.

At the beginning of Tuesday’s (July 1) episode of Loose Women, Denise began to tear up as a clip showed Matty crying at the end of their set.

She told her fellow panelists: “I missed that bit, I was turning around when he was crying. It was only after I saw the clips on Instagram…

“There’s a clip of them going around from years ago on This Is Your Life with Matty saying ‘when I grow up, I’d like to be a top class musician'. It cuts to that clip [the 1975 on the Pyramid Stage].

“They started in my garage. They were 13 years old, they were a variety of names before The 1975. From those songs I used to shout ‘shut up, I’m trying to get some sleep’, to hearing those same songs Matty and Geroge wrote when they were really young was emotional and overwhelming.”

Despite being a very happy mum, Denise revealed that she has no intention of returning to the festival anytime soon.

She explained: “The bit where we were on the tower and the crowds would spot me and wave, it was fantastic. Glastonbury, I’ve seen my son headline and I will never do it again. I will never go again.

“Janet [Street-Porter] told me about it, she said 'it’s not VIP like you think it’s VIP. Take a yogurt pot'. You were so right. I forgot to take the yogurt pot.

“People think you’re the mum of the band, you’re going to have an access to all areas thing, there’s no such thing."

Denise added: “You never have the right wristband for the right place you’re trying to get through. I’m the mum of the headliner.”
