The Denise Richards and Her Wild Things star told Bravo producer Alex Baskin that she "almost s--- the bed" during her first RHOBH girls' trip.
Former Housewife Denise Richards, now star of the upcoming Bravo series Denise Richards and Her Wild Things, just gave some wild details about what it was like to film The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, as you can see in a preview of Season 3, Episode 9 of Bravo’s Hot Mic Podcast, dropping Tuesday, February 18.
In her recent sit-down with network producer Alex Baskin, the Wild Things and Starship Troopers actress confessed she was “excited” and “nervous” to join the RHOBH cast for their Season 9 girls’ trip to The Bahamas. But it was also quite the adjustment for the Hollywood starlet, mainly since she was accustomed to working in the realm of all things scripted.
At the time, Denise was already well-acquainted with a few of the other diamond holders, including Kyle Richards, Camille Grammer, and Lisa Rinna. She told Baskin she viewed the “iconic” series as the “unscripted” version of her parents’ favorite soap operas, such as Dallas, Dynasty, and Knots Landing.
But “this was a little different,” Denise said of working on a reality TV show. “So, I told Aaron [Phypers], my husband — he was my boyfriend at the time when I started the first season — that I think I need to look at this as though I’m going on location.”
What RHOBH filming secret stunned Denise Richards?
Denise revealed that filming in The Bahamas was “intimidating” and “daunting,” but there was one behind-the-scenes bombshell that markedly separated her worlds of scripted and non-scripted work, as told by Alex Baskin.
“One of my favorite small stories from that trip is, I remember at one point, you had asked the crew — we’re in the middle of filming — and you’re like, ‘Where’s craft services?’” he recalled.
The podcast host and his guest laughed at the memory, in which crew members explained that — unlike movie sets — craft services to provide unending food and drink was an unconventional commodity when filming reality TV.
“Lisa Rinna told me,” Denise said. “I’m like, ‘What do you mean?’ I thought she was joking. I’m like, ‘There has to be some f-----g craft service around here somewhere.’”
Denise was deeply surprised that RHOBH provided no craft services, claiming that unscripted shows such as Survivor allegedly do.
“I almost s—t the bed,” Denise continued.
According to the mom of three, Denise is a woman who needs her food on hand, and her fellow Housewives know as much.
“Lisa knows me; I’m a grazer,” she said. “I always have snacks, and she goes, ‘When Denise is around, we need to make sure there’s snacks …’ I raided that f-----g minibar the next outing when we had to go out on a boat. I’m like, ‘I’m gonna take every pretzel and potato chip here.’”
It might not have been enough for Denise to call Bravo, Bravo, f-----g Bravo (as she infamously had in RHOBH Season 10, Episode 5), and it wasn’t the only thing about filming Denise had to get used to.
As Alex pointed out, Denise joined the franchise with zero interest in dressing up. Alex said that despite crew members encouraging the women to dress as they would IRL, many don’t when the cameras are up and rolling.
Instead, when Denise first showed up to film, she wore a Guns N’ Roses tee and jeans, both reminisced.
“I did put some lip gloss and mascara on,” Denise laughed. “I remember that meeting, and then when I went to The Bahamas, even though I watched the show, I didn’t realize until being on it what was all involved with the outfits and all that s--t, and I’m like, ‘OK, we’re going to The Bahamas.’”
