Coronation Street's Sue Cleaver appeared on Loose Women as she gave her review on the brand new Channel 4 show live on air.

During Tuesday's (May 13) installment, Ruth Langsford took control of the panel as she was joined by Coleen Nolan, Sunetra Sarker and Sue Cleaver.

Ruth kicked off the conversation by discussing a "controversial" Channel 4 show that first aired earlier this week, Virgin Island.

The description for the show reads: "Virgin Island follows 12 adult virgins, as they travel to a luxury Mediterranean retreat to embark on a unique course in intimacy, to see if it can help them overcome the fears that are holding them back."

Coronation Street actress Sue didn't hold back, as she said: "Losing your virginity is the problem, that's a social construct. What worries me is that, we've done this forever, using that as a benchmark for self worth and what's normal.

"I lost my virginity too young I feel now, and it was purely out of peer pressure... You felt like you had to do it."

She continued: "Having watched that programme last night and you had sex therapists, I don't know what qualifications they have, and sex surrogates who actually get physical with you, I mean how ethical is that?"

Ruth interjected with a statement from Channel 4: "The production follows strict safeguarding protocols, all intimacy work was overseen by a credited expert..."

Sue replied: "You've got vulnerable people there and there is a power dynamic and a power exchange and I just think that is quite dangerous... When somebody's that vulnerable and that unsure of themselves and frightened and have fear around sex, is it a good way of doing it?"

As the first episode aired, Celeste Hirschman, co-founder of the Somatica Institute and an intimacy coach, explained why young people would be interested in the therapy that she offers.

She said: "There are very few places that people can learn how to be emotionally and erotically intimate in a safe container where they are able to practice actually sharing erotic energy and experiences without being shamed or shut down.

"Somatica coaching offers this kind of safe space as well as gentle, loving, in-the-moment coaching, from someone who is adept at helping people learn how to be more present and intimate."

Loose Women airs on weekdays from 12:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
