As a result of the extended Olympics coverage over the summer, the BBC has decided to give soap fans an early fix.

The corporation uploads each episode of EastEnders to iPlayer early and put them on the streaming platform before they are due to go on air on terrestrial channels.

Now, ITV has also opted to follow suit and do the same thing for its own long-running soaps.

Both Emmerdale and Coronation Street will have episodes uploaded onto ITV's own streaming service, ITVX.

Rather than just catch-up, the newest instalments will be available to view on the morning they are due to go on air.

The announcement was made on the official social media accounts of both shows.

The broadcaster wrote: "We're giving you a little treat this summer whilst the Olympics are on.

"On each day of transmission, you can find Corrie and Emmerdale episodes on ITVX at 7am!

The account added: "But remember to keep this a spoiler free zone for those watching in the evenings."

This comes after EastEnders was hit by yet another schedule shake-up.

The flagship BBC One evening drama will be dropped from its regular 7:30pm slot as a result of the Olympics coverage.

Live coverage of the worldwide sporting event in Paris has taken precedent over the TV schedules.

After being booted from its usual slot, EastEnders will instead air on sister channel BBC Two.

This is on top of a continued drop of episodes early on BBC iPlayer.

Both Coronation Street and Emmerdale are available to view on ITV1 and ITVX.
