Viewers are outraged that one contestant remains in the competition, claiming that it is 'an insult to the other celebrities and the professional dancers'
Dancing with the Stars viewers were left far from happy as a second celebrity was axed from the show on Sunday night.
Ireland AM's Elaine Crowley became the second contestant to be eliminated from series eight of the hit RTE series after her energetic Jive failed to impress the judges.
However, viewers at home believed that Kevin Dundon should have been the contestant bidding farewell to the series, with those watching on from home left dumbfounded that the celebrity chef remains in the competition.
It was Movie Week on the show tonight. The annual special saw the ten remaining celebrity couples dance glittering routines inspired by some of the biggest movies of all time, with iconic heroes, villains and much-loved characters taking centre stage.
Broadcaster Elaine and her dance partner Denys Samson performed an energetic Jive to You Can’t Stop the Beat from Hairspray, which scored a total of 18 points from the judges.
However, it wasn't enough to keep the pair in the competition, as Elaine became the second contestant axed from the series following the departure of Mickey Joe Harte the previous week.
On exiting the competition, Elaine said: "I'm disappointed but I had a shaky day today."
Despite having the the lowest number of votes combined from the first four episodes, Elaine's exit came as a surprise to many viewers, who were baffled not to see Kevin Dundon voted off following his disastrous Jive, which earned just eight points from the judges.
"Does anyone think @DWTSIRL is a fix? Seriously. Kevin is the worst contestant ever! The weather woman is also awful. Both work for @rte. Who the hell are voting for them?" one viewer said on social media.
"Always ridiculous how the worst dancer survives for ages in #DWTSIRL. Kevin is a hilarious guy and always gives 100%, but he's a god-awful dancer," added another.
A third said: "Ok sorry but seriously get rid of Kevin after that, he looks like he hasn’t a clue what he’s doing."
A fourth fan raged: "Sorry what the actual ____ is going on on this show??? Elaine who was TEN TIMES BETTER than Kevin, and yet we're voting to keep Kevin in? This is actually ridiculous!"
While another viewer said: "An insult to the other celebrities and the professional dancers that he is still in the competition. No need to put in gimmick acts each year."
Olympic gold medal-winner, Rhys McClenaghan and his partner, Laura Nolan were the bookies favourite to claim the Glitterball trophy before the new season got underway, and they certainly appear to be the couple to beat after tonight's performance.
The duo took viewers to dizzying heights this week as they danced a Charleston to the theme from Spider-Man, with their performance earning rave reviews from the judges.
"My god you couldn't have picked a better movie," said Karen Byrne. The whole thing was perfect... I'm gonna stop now because I'm lost for words - unreal!"
Fellow judge Brian Redmond added: "I thought this was extraordinary. It's an absolute honour to watch an Olympic gold medal winner improving his dance skills. Well done."
The couple earned a impressive 29 points out of 30 for their routine, the highest score of the night.
Next week's episode of Dancing with the Stars will see each couple choose a special moment for their Dedicated Dance, and producers have confirmed that there will be no elimination next Sunday (February 2).
