Concerns Rise for Washington Capitals Stars as NHL Trade Deadline Draws Near trucc

Countdown to six days, and we will see some expected and unexpected trade deals coming into effect in the NHL. Approaching March 7, teams like the Washington Capitals, who are already making changes, are stepping forward. Reshaping their team, the Capitals took the first move by acquiring their new general manager, Chris Patrick.

With a 38-13-8 record, the team holds the top spot in the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference. The Capitals are in a strong position for the upcoming Stanley Cup run, and with Patrick’s addition, hopes for a positive change are high as the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline approaches.

Capitals’ healthy scratches are at risk

General Manager Chris Patrick is working to strengthen the Washington Capitals’ roster, and the upcoming trade deadline presents a prime opportunity for a roster makeover. Discussing his approach, he stated, “I think it’s going to be a balance of, are there ways to improve our team versus risking over-tinkering with what’s been a pretty good group so far this year?”

Dylan McIlrath, who has played just 11 games this season, has now been sidelined for 25 straight games. His last appearance on December 23 against the Boston Bruins did not stand out. A former member of the AHL’s Hershey Bears, McIlrath remains positive despite being scratched.

“It’s just the situation; I’m at peace with it. It doesn’t make it easy, but I know I just have to focus on myself. I’ve been at it long enough to be a pro, and I know I have to be ready when my time comes. So I’m really taking advantage of full-team practices, making sure I keep the same pace as the other guys, and treating it as if it were a game,” he said.
