Coleen Nolan's brother Brian Nolan has shared a cancer update live on Tuesday's (July 15) episode of Loose Women
Emotions were high on Loose Women as Coleen Nolan's brother Brian shared a cancer update, just four months after he confirmed his heart-breaking diagnosis.
Brian, 70, was diagnosed with prostate cancer not long after his sister Linda Nolan died from pneumonia in January, 20 years after first being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Making a return to the ITV hit daytime chat show on Tuesday (July 15), Brian revealed that he has since been given the all-clear following his recent surgery.
In a heartfelt moment, while sitting next to his sister Coleen, he shared: “There have been developments. I’ll start at the beginning. So I had the operation, it’s called a RALP, which means it’s a robotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy.”
He continued: “To make a long story short, my cancer was in the prostate gland, so they offered me a radical operation, which drew the whole cancer out.”
Fighting back tears, Brian added: “I was basically in the hospital for 18 hours and I got the all clear last Tuesday that the cancer is completely gone and my bloods are back to normal.”
Brian urged viewers to get checked for cancer as he insisted that it can ‘save your life’. He explained: “With my whole journey and coming here - what I’m trying to get over to people is we need to get checked because this can happen to anybody. I’m not special, I was very lucky in fact.
“At the moment we have no screening procedures for prostate cancer in the country. Thirteen thousand men are dying for no reason because they haven’t been told about it and there is no regular screening.
Brian added: “There is nothing for prostate cancer and in the meetings I’ve had there is no plans to have it as of yet.
“But there is one good thing I heard today, that there is some research going on, but that takes time and no one waits around for cancer. I would say to all guys, please please please go and get tested because it will save your lives."
Brian previously detailed the heart-breaking moment he found out that he was diagnosed with cancer. After having a problem with his bladder he had two blood tests before his diagnosis was confirmed.
Following his biopsy he said: “'I've got cancer'. The doctor confirmed 'yes you've got cancer.' It's just something in your life you really don't want to hear. I was completely speechless. My wife was with me, she broke down a little bit."
