Chris McCausland has opened up about the "disappointing" moment he experienced after the final of Strictly Come Dancing.

The comedian, 47, made history as the first ever blind contestant on the BBC show and went on to win with Dianne Buswell. Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, where he appeared alongside ex-Strictly professional Oti Mabuse, viewers were given a glimpse into what it's like to come out on top in the intense competition.

Shedding light on the behind-the-scenes reality of winning the show, Chris revealed how the glitterball trophy is not quite as glamorous as it seems.

Oti, who won the show with Kelvin Fletcher and Bill Bailey, explained: "Well no. It's a tiny one, they give you the big one on screen then after it's ended they come up and give you the tiniest one and say, 'Enjoy your day, bye.'"

Agreeing with Oti's sentiment, Chris shared his own thoughts: "Yeah, not going to lie after four months of hard graft, it's a bit disappointing."

His comment drew laughter before he earnestly recounted his initial apprehensions about signing up for the show.

Highlighting his fears prior to stepping onto the dance floor, Chris divulged: "Yeah it wasn't something I couldn't go back and look at.

"I didn't know what I was getting into. I didn't know how good the good people were, I didn't know how bad the bad people were. I just needed to not be the worst person to have ever done it."

Revealing more about the pressure he felt, Chris admitted: "The whole thing, I mean if you're not very good at Strictly for anyone else you run the risk of being a bit goofy, or doing a dad dance. But I ran the risk of literally ending up in the audience."

Chris recalled performing his final routine with Dianne, saying: "It was emotional Jonathan, it was emotional. We did this waltz and she said I couldn't have done it more beautifully, she said I nailed it."

Visibly moved by the memory, Chris continued: "As we got to the end we were supposed to just link arms and walk off stage. But, as we got to the end she just crumpled, and I just crumpled and the two of us were in bits. It was a lot, you know."

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Chris confessed to experiencing significant stress during the show's 13-week run, which his young daughter Sophie also sensed and mirrored.

Detailing Sophie's reaction to the final, Chris shared: "In the end, she watched the final at home, screaming at the telly. It felt incredible for her to be that proud and that delighted."
