Charlotte, 49, appeared on Strictly back in 2017, dancing with now-axed pro Brendan Cole.

Speaking about the under-fire series, Charlotte told Woman magazine: "It’s one of the most amazing, but one of the most terrifying experiences at the same time, so it’s kind of part heaven, part hell.

"It’s an incredible show to be a part of, and I was really lucky to have been asked to be a contestant.

"I can’t say I’ve kept up the dancing very much, however!"

The pressure is on the BBC to deliver a successful new series of Strictly after accusations against Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima threw a spotlight on training regimes.

Graziano was sacked over allegations of abuse against Made in Chelsea star Zara McDermott.

Colleague Giovanni Pernice is being investigated following similar complaints from his Sherlock actress partner Amanda Abbington.

As part of new measures, chaperones will be present during all sessions and a welfare officer will be available to both professional dancers and celebrities.

Previously speaking about Brendan Cole, Charlotte said: "He wasn't afraid to speak his mind, he had my back, he was prepared to defend me when he thought that there was unfair treatment from the judges.

"He was happy to turn around and to stick up for me, and to say, 'Do you know what? I don't think that's fair.' And I really, really appreciated that, because you go through so much putting yourself out there, trying your very hardest, and it's really hard when you get criticism and especially if you think that it's unfair criticism as well.

"So hats off to him for sticking his neck out and doing it! And I hope that wasn't a part of the decision."
