Capitals Sign Luke Toporowski and Graeme Clarke to Bolster Depth trucc

The Washington Capitals have officially signed forwards Luke Toporowski and Graeme Clarke, two promising 24-year-old players acquired in recent trades, adding depth and talent to their organization. Both players had productive seasons in the AHL and are looking to make an impact in their new roles.

Toporowski, originally acquired from the Boston Bruins in exchange for veteran Pat Maroon, recorded 13 goals and 28 points in 53 games for the Iowa Wild during the 2024-25 season. The Iowa native has signed a one-year contract with the Hershey Bears, the Capitals’ AHL affiliate, where he is expected to continue his development and bring his offensive skills and grit to the team.

Clarke, who was traded from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Adam Beckman, had an impressive season with 16 goals, 21 assists, and 37 points in 64 games for the Iowa Wild. Unlike Toporowski, Clarke has secured a one-year, two-way contract with the Capitals, valued at $775,000 in the NHL and $350,000 in the AHL, giving him a clear path to compete for a spot on the NHL roster.

Both players became free agents after the Minnesota Wild decided not to extend qualifying offers to them. The Capitals have taken advantage of this opportunity to bring in two motivated players who are eager to prove their worth. With Toporowski set to contribute in Hershey and Clarke aiming for NHL minutes, these signings reflect the Capitals’ commitment to building depth and fostering competition within their organization.

As the Capitals prepare for the 2025-26 season, the addition of these two young forwards could provide a boost both at the AHL and NHL levels, giving the team more flexibility and talent in the lineup.
