The Washington Capitals acquired forward Anthony Beauvillier in a trade deadline deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Friday.
The Capitals landed Beauvillier by dealing the Penguins a 2025 second-round draft pick in return. The Penguins are retaining no salary on Beauvillier’s contract.
Beauvillier has 20 points (13g, 7a) in 63 games for the Penguins this season. The former 2015 first-round pick played seven seasons with the New York Islanders from 2016-2023. He recorded a career-high 40 points (18g, 22a) in 82 games during the 2022-23 campaign split between the Islanders and Vancouver Canucks.
Beauvillie was skating on the Penguins’ second line with Evgeni Malkin and Philip Tomasino. He is averaging 13:00 time on ice per game and has not regularly played any special teams minutes this year.
The Sorel-Tracy, Quebec native has 31 points (16g, 15a) in 55 career playoff games. He has now been dealt at two trade deadlines in a row after the Nashville Predators acquired him from the Chicago Blackhawks last year for a fifth-round pick.
Beauvillier makes $1.25 million against the salary cap. He is an unrestricted free agent after this season.
The 27-year-old winger has several prior connections to current members of the Capitals. He was briefly teammates with Taylor Raddysh in Chicago last year and Lars Eller in Pittsburgh this year. He has also played internationally for Team Canada with Dylan Strome and Pierre-Luc Dubois.
The Capitals still own a 2025 second-round pick after they acquired Boston’s at the 2023 trade deadline in the move that sent Garnet Hathaway and Dmitry Orlov to the Bruins.
