Candiace Dillard Bassett is opening up about why she's decided to keep her son's face private.
The Real Housewives of Potomac alum, 38, spoke with Entertainment Tonight and was asked why she has yet to share a photo of her 5-month-old son Jett Maxwell's face on social media. Candiace, who shares her son with husband Chris Bassett, explained that she wants to protect her son as best she can.
“As long as we can protect him and his identity and his face, we’re gonna do that. My mom is always like, ‘When are you going to show the baby? He’s so cute, everybody needs to see the baby!’ " Candiace said.
"We will show him, obviously, eventually. But just for now, we’re just enjoying having him to ourselves. It’s been really beautiful just to keep him to ourselves," she explained.
Back in November, PEOPLE exclusively revealed that the Bassetts had welcomed their little one, and shared debut photos of the the happy trio.
"He is just the cutest little thing," Candiace told PEOPLE in an interview. "Chris and I couldn't be happier. It's so cliché to say, but he's brought such joy to our lives in ways I never would have been able to describe before. It's pure love!"
"I just look at him and envision all the adventures we’re going to have,” she continued. "Throughout my pregnancy, when I would talk to him in my stomach, I would say, 'I can't wait to see who you're going to be.' And that's been the joy in my heart that's continued after his birth. It's exciting to think about. I'm so ready for a lifetime of being on the sidelines, cheering him on."
Days after season 8 wrapped in April 2024 and PEOPLE broke the news Candiace was stepping away from the Bravo show, Candiace dropped the news that she was pregnant.
Candiace first revealed her pregnancy news in a sit-down with Entertainment Tonight. "I am about 13 weeks ... so just about into the second trimester," she told the outlet.
"It's been weird, but also really wonderful, I think, to keep it kind of to ourselves to this point. ... It's just been, like, kind of quietly just growing a bun," she continued.
Candiace and Chris met while working at a restaurant together in Washington D.C., where he was the manager and she was a server. He proposed in May 2017, surprising her with all their friends and family.
The two married in August 2018 at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in D.C. in an extravagant wedding that was filmed for the show.
