With training camp inching closer by the hour and the minute towards 50 seasons of Washington Capitals hockey let's break down the defensive pairing of Ramus Sandin and Matt Roy.

The basics
Rasmus Sandin recorded three goals and 20 assists for 23 points in 68 games. The Swede was reliable when healthy and health will play a major part in the defense this season. Enter Matt Roy.

Roy comes from the Los Angeles Kings where he spent six years there. Last season he had five goals and 20 assists for 25 points and he appeared in 81 games. In the playoffs, he had two assists while Sandin appeared in just one playoff game.

Rasmus Sandin finished the regular season with a corsi for percentage of 46.12 percent, a 46.06 percent expected goals for percentage and a 44.82 high danger chances for percentage. In the playoffs that corsi for percentage went up to 50 percent while his high danger chances for percentage came out to 50 percent as well but his expected goals for percentage was at 36.18 percent.

As for Matt Roy in the regular season he finished with a corsi for percentage of 53.63 percent, and then a 55.57 percent expected goals for percentage followed by a 56.77 percent high danger chances for percentage. In the playoffs that corsi for percentage went up to 59.14 percent while his high danger chances for percentage came out to 46.51 percent and his expected goals for percentage at 53.89 percent.
