Ellie Goldstein: Breaking Barriers as Vogue’s First Model with Down Syndrome

The world of fashion has long been known for its exclusivity, but trailblazers like Ellie Goldstein are changing the narrative. From gracing the cover of Vogue to walking the runway for Gucci, Ellie has proven that determination, self-confidence, and passion can shatter even the highest glass ceilings. Recently, she joined Loose Women alongside her mother to share her inspiring journey, discuss her groundbreaking career, and reflect on what’s next.

The Road to Becoming a Model

Ellie’s love for fashion began at a young age. Her bubbly personality, boundless energy, and natural confidence quickly set her apart. "When I was little, I would catwalk around the house saying, 'Oh, it’s me!'” she laughed. Even as a child, Ellie declared she wanted to be famous and a model — a dream that her mom, Yvonne, wholeheartedly supported.

The turning point came when Ellie joined Zebedee Talent, an inclusive modeling agency that champions diversity in the fashion industry. Her first photo shoot was a success, and Ellie hasn’t looked back since.

“I love the makeup, the hair, and most of all, being myself on the catwalk,” Ellie shared. Her authenticity and joy for modeling have made her a standout in an industry often criticized for its rigid beauty standards.

A Historic Vogue Cover

Ellie’s career skyrocketed when she became the first model with Down syndrome to appear on the cover of Vogue. The moment she found out remains etched in her memory.

“I was at college when I saw myself on Instagram. I just kept saying, ‘Oh my god, oh my god!’” Ellie’s mom recalled receiving the news during a taxi ride, where they were told Ellie had made the cover. “I had to stop myself from screaming in the car!” Yvonne said.

For Ellie, landing the cover of Vogue was a dream come true — a testament to her talent and the industry’s growing embrace of inclusivity.

Expanding Horizons: Acting Debut

Modeling isn’t the only field where Ellie is making waves. She recently made her acting debut in the beloved series Malory Towers, playing Nancy, a 14-year-old girl in the 1950s.

Ellie shared her excitement about being on set: “I loved it so much! I worked with wonderful creative coaches, and I loved the preparation process.” While acting involves long hours and repetitive takes, Ellie’s enthusiasm shone through: “I like early starts because we get breakfast on set!”

Her role in Malory Towers is another milestone in Ellie’s career, showcasing her versatility and talent beyond the runway.

Championing Inclusion and Diversity

Ellie’s journey isn’t just about personal triumphs — she’s using her platform to advocate for greater inclusion and representation. As an ambassador for Mencap, a charity supporting people with learning disabilities, Ellie is spreading an important message:

“Inclusion and diversity should be out there, like me. When people see me as a model, they'll think, ‘Wow, Ellie’s achieved so much!’”

Her work with Mencap aims to inspire others with disabilities to pursue their dreams and challenge societal expectations.

A Mother’s Pride

Yvonne, Ellie’s mom, couldn’t be prouder of her daughter’s accomplishments. Reflecting on their journey, she shared the challenges they faced when Ellie was born.

“It was very negative at the hospital. They told us she wouldn’t walk, talk, or go to school. But Ellie has proven them all wrong,” Yvonne said.

Ellie’s success as a model, actress, and advocate stands as a powerful reminder of her resilience and determination.

A Bright Future Ahead

Ellie Goldstein is not just a model or an actress — she’s a trailblazer who’s redefining what’s possible. Her authenticity, confidence, and drive have made her a role model for people worldwide.

As she continues to break barriers, Ellie’s message remains clear: “I want to show the world who I am and what I’m capable of.”

For Ellie, this is just the beginning. Whether on the runway, the screen, or as an advocate for inclusivity, she’s proving that dreams have no limits.
