Several current and former Washington Capitals are set to take to the field at Capital ONe Park in Tysons, Virginia, on Saturday, as Karl Alzner hosts his foundation's annual "Swing Into Summer" home run derby and slow-pitch softball game.
The game will start at 4 p.m., with Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie captaining teams featuring current players Dylan Strome and Connor McMichael, along with alumni Braden Holtby, Steven Oleksy, Alzner himself and more. Carey Price, Ryan Zimmerman, Hayley Skarupa, Adam Eaton and other celebrities and athletes are also set to participate.
"This is more than just a game," Alzner said. "It's a chance for athletes and fans to come together to support kids who deserve every opportunity to thrive in sports and life."
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Alzner Foundation. The Alzner Foundation was co-founded in 2023 by Alzner and his wife, Mandy, and helps youth gain access to sports and enrichment programs while also providing grants and visibility to nonprofits and creating "opportunities for young athletes to learn, grow and thrive."
There is also a silent auction that includes meeet and greets with Strome, McMichael, Holtby, Oshie, Backstrom, Alzner and Zimmerman, along with signed jerseys. Fans can participate here.
Last year's event raised over $100,000 for youth sports in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area, surpassing the initial goal of $25,000.
