Andy Cohen, the popular American TV host, has resurfaced on the internet for the way he was insensitive to the American filmmaker, David Lynch’s demise on his talk show. He is facing backlash for abruptly disclosing the news in front of the guests on a live show.
When the cast of ‘Severance’ was giving the on-air interview to ‘SiriusXM’ Radio, where Cohen was interviewing Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, Ben Stiller, and many more, he interrupted the ongoing conversation and said, “My producer just gave me the very sad news that the great David Lynch passed away today. I’m wondering if any of you worked with him or have any memories with him?” without giving any of them a moment to adjust to this saddening news.
Arquette, however, who has worked with the filmmaker in 1997 film Lost Highway was visibly shaken by the news, yet she responded quite thoughtfully. She recalled, “Yeah, I did. I worked in 'Lost Highway' with him. I was at the Morocco Film Festival, and the woman who ran in the movie said that she loves David and they are good friends. We were talking about David and then I called my friend Balthazar who was in Lost Highway with me, and I was like we gotta see David. You know, I tried to leave a word for him.” She added, “I had a feeling that I wanted to see David. David was incredible.”
Cohen’s lack of insensitivity has made him fall prey to online trolls and hate. A Reddit user added, “To break the news on his passing and then continue to ask them questions about it… is kinda shitty.” While another person added, “Insert shady rattlesnake sound… 🐍”
Another social media user pointed out his dismissive tone and mentioned, “He didn’t even give the news a moment to breathe before launching into interview mode. If he didn’t know Patricia was friends with him, his producer should have told him.” Another user criticized his technique of interviewing and expressed, “He thinks he’s hosting a Real Housewives of VanderPump Kardashians reunion and fanning the flames for drama. C-list all the way. This man is nothing but tacky.”
