MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — St. Louis native and celebrity Andy Cohen joined Democratic senate candidate Lucas Kunce Friday afternoon on the campaign trail in the St. Louis area.
Kunce is running against Republican incumbent Josh Hawley for the senate seat.
Cohen supports Kunce for senate because of his commitment to investing in Missouri and for the citizens to live their lives and raise families how they see fit.
“I believe in him. I think he’s a great guy,” Cohen said Friday during the campaign event. “He cares about Missouri and I care about Missouri politics.”
While Cohen lives in New York City, he has been paying attention to the politics that have been happening in his home state.
Kunce is supporting the ballot measure to restore abortion rights.
“I care about women and I think women should be able to advocate for themselves and their own bodies,” Cohen said.
“I look at a senator who’s trying to take the state of Missouri back to Handmaid's Tale times and I look at someone who hasn't brought a cent into this state since he’s been a senator."
Kunce's ads have highlighted his Marine service under former President Donald Trump and have praised former U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, a Republican, for bringing federal tax dollars to the state. He also has declined to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris atop the Democratic ticket.
Cohen said he does not vote here in Missouri, but his family and friends do.
“Like most Missourians, I’m proud to be from here,” Cohen said. “This is my ultimate home, so I take a very special interest in what’s going on here.”
During the campaign event, Cohen and Kunce toured Station 3 of the Pattonville Fire Protection District (PFPD).
They learned about the technology and equipment the firefighters and paramedics use.
Kunce said he gained a new understanding of the gear and tools used by the fire protection district.
“I didn’t know what half the gear was,” he said.
“I’m very impressed at how updated everything is, how efficient everybody is, (and) how they’ve incorporated technology in what they’re doing
Cohen and Kunce also spoke individually with PFPD crew members and officials.
The pair also visited volunteers working to secure reproductive freedom in Missouri. They ended the day with a rally at the Sheet Metal Workers SMART Local Union No. 36 office in St. Louis.
Last week, Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker joined Hawley for a series of events, including a stop in Cottleville. Butker made headlines for a commencement speech last spring that said women should focus on their role as homemakers.
