Andrew Mangiapane Inks Two-Year, $7.2M Deal with Stanley Cup Finalists Edmonton Oilers trucc

Andrew Mangiapane will return to the Battle of Alberta next season, but on the other side.

The 29-year-old, former longtime member of the Calgary Flames, signed a two-year, $7.2 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. Mangiapane played the 2024-25 season with the Washington Capitals after the Caps dealt the Flames a second-round pick to acquire him last summer.

Mangiapane is the fourth Capitals player from last year to sign with another team in free agency, joining Lars Eller, Taylor Raddysh, and Ethan Bear.

Mangiapane recorded 28 points (14g, 14a) in the 81 games he played for the Capitals. He also left his stamp on the team’s 2025 postseason, scoring the game-winning goal against the Montreal Canadiens in Game 4 of the first round.

The Toronto native played primarily bottom-six minutes with the Caps, averaging 13:02 of ice time per game. With Mangiapane and Eller both departing in free agency, the club will need to almost completely reconfigure their third line heading into next season.

Mangiapane’s contract with the Oilers includes a full no-trade clause in the first year and a five-team trade approval list in the second year. The $3.6 million is $2.2 million less than he made with the Capitals for one season.

Mangiapane had the best seasons of his career playing for the Flames in the NHL’s Pacific Division.  During the 2021-22 campaign, he notched a career high 55 points (35g, 20a) in 82 games. He has tallied more points against Edmonton (20) than any other team in the league.

The Oilers, Stanley Cup Final runners-up for a second straight year, were relatively quiet on the first day of free agency.

Outside of bringing Mangiapane in, they traded forward Viktor Arvidsson to the Boston Bruins and signed two minor free agents, goaltender Matt Tomkins ($775k AAV) and defenseman Riley Stillman ($775k AAV), to two-year contracts.
