Two goats earned the July cover of Washingtonian magazine.
A sweetly smiling Alex Ovechkin cradles a brown and white kid in the photo taken by Dean Alexander.
“We got the GOAT,” Washingtonian says in a yellow banner bubble to the left of Oveckin’s right shoulder.
The nod comes after Ovechkin broke the NHL goals record on April 6, scoring his 895th career goal against the New York Islanders becoming the greatest goal scorer of all time (G.O.A.T.).
“Our July issue lays out 100 reasons to love D.C. right now, and the number-one reason is that we are home to the NHL’s greatest player of all time,” Washingtonian editor Sherri Dalphonse said in a relese. “Once we confirmed that Ovi could pose for the cover, well, we knew we wanted him shot with a four-legged goat. And as readers might be able to tell when they see the photo, the minute we put Nimbus the goat in Ovechkin’s arms, the goat nestled right in.”
Washingtonian also posted a behind the scenes video of the photoshoot where the goat wears a Capitals jersey instead of Ovechkin and the two share a moment.
Ovechkin’s goat-y magazine cover comes after having a goat encounter in Turkey during his first day of summer vacation. He was also saluted by the Washington Capitals on April 12 with “Gr8ness goats” during a celebration at Capital One Arena. Ovechkin held the goats and petted them before departing the event.
