Alex Ovechkin broke the NHL goals record on April 6, scoring his 895th goal against the New York Islanders.
After Ovechkin became the new NHL goals king, Fanatics released new merch celebrating the milestone, including autographed photos and pucks. Those signed Ovechkin pieces were labeled as “special event items” on Fanatics’ website and had a shipping date later in the year. The reason was that Ovechkin had not yet signed the items.
That autograph session appears to have happened last week, as Nastya Ovechkina posted a video to her Instagram Story showing off all the NHL goals record items her husband was in the process of signing.
My hand hurts just looking at this.
The beginning of the video shows Ovechkin signing pucks with the Capitals logo, putting the inscription 895g and 4.6.25. A look down the table shows hundreds, if not thousands, of pucks set up waiting for his autograph. At another table, there are what appear to be thousands of bellyflop celly photos — both 16×20 and 8×10 — stacked on top of each other.
While the autographed NHL goals record pucks are no longer available on Fanatics, the photos can still be purchased on the website.
Ovechkin made reference to the big autograph signing on Breakdown Day.
“I have a huge – I think it’s going to be Tuesday – I have a huge signing stuff, probably like close to 7,000,” Ovechkin said. “So I’m going to be busy. It’s going to be tough day for me.”
