Alex Ovechkin is back in the laboratory for some offseason gains.

Tuesday, fresh off his month-long beach vacation in Turkey, Ovechkin returned to the gym to put in work with Pavel Burlachenko, his longtime personal trainer, in Russia.

“We started training with Pasha!   ,” Ovechkin was quoted as saying by his media team on Telegram.

“I think most important thing is to do smart things when I go back to my home,” Ovechkin said of his summer plans during his Breakdown Day interview in May. “Obviously, relax, don’t think about hockey. Then, you have to start doing again. That’s the hardest part after summer. Me and Pavel going to do our job to get ready for the season and just do my best.”

In the fall, Ovechkin will play his 21st NHL season and look to add to his NHL goals record. Ovi finished the 2024-25 campaign with 897 tallies and could become the first player in NHL history to eclipse the 900-goal mark in October.

Though, Ovechkin wasn’t looking that far ahead when speaking last with Capitals media.

“For me, first of all to make the roster at 40-years-old,” Ovechkin said. “Skate, I have to pass skating test, that’s one thing and then we’ll see.”

Ovechkin had previously spent most of June and the first week of July vacationing with his family, friends, and goats. On social media, Ovechkin was seen playing beach volleyball with his friends.

In the coming week, Ovechkin will take part in the “Match of the Year” exhibition game, pitting Russian NHL players against KHL stars, on July 13. Per sports.ru, an open training session will be held at CSKA Arena in Russia.

Tuesday, Match TV also announced that Ovechkin would be unable to give exclusive interviews to media this summer due to the NHL filming a movie about him.
