Aishah Akorede Candidly Discusses Confidence Setback on Dancing with the Stars trucc

Former Miss Universe Ireland Aishah Akorede has spoken of her delight at reaching the Dancing with the Stars semi-finals, admitting she thought she would be ‘the first one kicked out.’

The 25-year-old remained positive as she discussed how she had been in three out of four dance-offs alongside professional dancer Robert Rowinksi.

Last week, Aishah was saved by judges Arthur Gourounlian, Karen Byrne and Brian Redmond when she went up against TV chef, Kevin Dundon.

‘A KNOCK TO THE CONFIDENCE’

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s semi-finals, Aishah admitted being in the bottom two ‘can be a knock to the confidence,’ but reassured that worse things have happened.

Asked why she thought she wasn’t getting the public vote, Aishah said she had been thinking herself and even watched back clips of herself on the show.

‘I would never in my lifetime watch myself back, but the past few days I was like: “Have I done something wrong?” or am I coming across in a way that I shouldn’t be coming across?’ she explained.

‘I just wanted to make sure that I was coming across as authentically myself.’

SEMI-FINALS
The model added that her friends and family had noted that being ‘new to the scene’ is likely going against her.

‘Being someone that’s new to the scene, and having been able to make it to the semi-final is huge in general!’ she said, ‘I thought I’d be the first one kicked out; I did not think I’d be this far!’

Reflecting on her DWTS experience, Aishah noted she is ‘going to be so sad that it’s over.’

‘When you’re in the moment, you don’t actually really appreciate [it],’ she said, ‘I feel like after I’m going to look back and I’m going to be so sad that it’s over.

‘It’s amazing to just be dancing on TV every single Sunday — dancing every day of the week. That is the dream.’

Dancing with the Stars returns this Sunday at 6.30pm on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
